Amazon.com Product Description The affordable, entry-level Timex T5G941 is great for those just starting out with heart rate monitoring. This digital wristwatch-style monitor continuously tracks your heart rate via a comfortable, elastic chest strap (which fists chest sizes from 25 to 53 inches). The large, easy-to-read display recalls your activity time and average, peak, and minimum heart rate, and it includes 12/24 hour time and month/date display. It also features INDIGLO night light backlighting, up to 2 years of battery life, and is water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet)--enabling it to withstand splashes and accidental dunks into the water, but not suitable for swimming.

good, does what it says - neat to see how fast my heart rate reacts to the workload. September 2, 2010 Jon Daley (Pittsburgh, PA) We've been quite happy with this watch/monitor.
It easily adjusts between my wife and I, though I use the largest setting, and I wouldn't consider myself all that big of a person (190 pounds, 6'3"), so I'm not sure if it would be good for a large person.
The book/manual was helpful in getting it setup, and understanding some heart basics.
We mostly use it for biking.
I tried it swimming, and it was very sporadic, but I was swimming in light salt water (where the Connecticut river meets Long Island Sound, so somewhat brackish). Maybe it works better in fresh water.
My wife found it interesting that she would see her heart rate go up before she even realized she had started a slight incline on her bike.
I believe this product is better than most monitors, since it doesn't require you to touch it to see the reading, but continuously displays the heart rate.
It does make a tiny click/beep every time a heart beat is detected, which is mildly annoying, particularly if you are testing resting heart rates (while lying in bed, or while reading, etc). but once you get exercising, you don't notice the sound very much.
very simple product that does the job August 21, 2010 PA I am a beginner runner and wanted to improve my performance. This is a simple gadget with no frills that works as advertised. I will recommend it to anyone. The only reason to go for a 4 star is that the heart rate in the watch and heart rate on the treadmills in the gym do not match but have a difference of +/- 5 bits even though both work on the same transmitter that I am wearing. But that is not a big concern to me as I am not preparing for the Olympics.
Timex T5G941 August 19, 2010 Ebtoulson Just a side note: This is my first heart monitor and I have not compared the numbers with gym heart beat monitors.
For the money the T5G941 is an excellent entry level heart monitor, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its problems. The start/stop button gets stuck and is hard to press. This has caused me to loss my workout stats multiple times. To get these stats you have to hold down down the start stop button after you have stopped a session. If you don't hold down the button long enough it will start a new session and cause you to loss all the information on the previous session. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.
Nothing Fancy August 11, 2010 T. A GROVE If you want a basic heart rate monitor for a low price this is the unit for you. Simple and easy to use, will record average heart rate as well as Max rate during your workout.
Times heart monitor August 8, 2010 Jmaes E. Fowler I have not been able to get the heart monitor to work properly, despite a replacement sent to me by Timex. I suspect the battery is not current and will now replace that myself at an additional cost to me. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
