Well made, speaks well for Timex August 31, 2010 Jeff5460 I purchased this watch to replace a Timex 1440 Sports watch I'd had for ten years; it arrived via UPS at my apartment within two days of the order date, safely and fully functional. My new 1440 Sports watch has all the features of my old one and a couple more I wasn't expecting -- namely, an hourly chime function (which I haven't set or used as yet) and a "time2" function for a second time zone, again which I have not yet set or had a use for.
The only thing I don't like about this watch is that the alarm beep is much too soft (or maybe my hearing is going -- I'm 54 years old and almost deaf in one ear, and my hearing not so good in the other). I had to hold the watch up to my ear to hear it, and even then I barely knew it was working.
All in all, this watch (except for the alarm), in my opinion, is a great value. The large display, along with the day of the week and the date(with the full date -- month and date -- available if necessary at the press of a button) allows the user to see the time and date very clearly, with large digits, so there is no mistaking any of the information on the display panel -- even with just a casual glance at it.
I don't know if this watch will last anywhere nearly as long as my first one; only time will tell, although seeing how well the watch is constructed, I can probably expect several good years of service from it. However, I am sold on Timex watches. This company certainly lives up to its slogan: "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!" My first 1440 Sports Timex survived a very hard knock against a concrete sidewalk about five years ago; it kept going in spite of that, the only damage being a slight wear mark on the "WR 60m" designation on the front of the watch bezel.
Great little watch August 24, 2010 Evan Middlemas I needed a watch i could wear when i'm working out or doing anything active. I'm enlisting in the air force and i need a watch i can use in basic that i won't damage and be upset about it. I normally wear my Nixon Quatro, but i'm afraid of damaging it. This is a good watch for the price and it does more than the normal person needs a watch to do.
Excellent running watch July 1, 2010 GJK (Chicago, IL) This is an excellent watch for all types of runners. The watch is light, so you can barely feel it while moving. The numbers are large enough to be easily read on the run. The buttons are clearly marked and navigating the different functions are very user-friendly. I would definitely recommend this watch for anyone needing to keep time on the run.
Great watch for little money June 9, 2010 Bizzy Izzy's Mom (Fort Ann, NY, USA) We will see how well this holds up long-term but then again for less than $20 it really wouldn't matter. Simple watch at a great price.
A bargain and a darn good watch May 29, 2010 Stanley G. Landis (Chicago area) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This watch is an excellent value for what you get. It has a band that fits my large wrist with one notch to spare. The time number is 3/8th of an inch tall. Easy to see for older folks. The day of the month is about 1/4 of an inch tall. The month is not shown however. No problem as most of us know what month we are in. The day of the week is a little poor in reading but you will get used to it. Water resistant but do not hit a button hard under water as it will leak. It has an extra time slot for showing a different time zone once you set it. Nothing fancy or complicated here. I won't have to constantly school myself and check a manual to operate it as the controls are laid out simply. I don't need to jam my finger in hard to press the button in. THIS WATCH WAS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. Simple, cheap and no big deal if it gets broken. I will buy another when the time comes. I hope Timex keeps selling it.
